Neighborhood character

LA Recreation and Parks' history of Bolton Hall says settlers moved onto acre and half-acre lots in 1913, calling themselves Little Landers, and that land developer Marshall Hartranft donated five lots and financed a meeting house. George Harris designed it from rocks gathered from local hillsides and Tujunga Wash.

The hall was the colony's clubhouse and held the second public library in the San Fernando Valley. It became Tujunga's City Hall after the 1925 incorporation and housed City of Los Angeles departments after the 1932 annexation. It was boarded up in 1957, declared City Historical Monument No. 2 in 1962, and reopened as a museum in December 1980.
